 About Christopher:
Growing up I loved skiing and snowboarding. I started skiing when I was 3 and then switched to snowboarding when I was 13. My first experience teaching was at Bryce mountain here in Virginia. At Bryce during high school I taught snowboarding for two winters. It was a lot of fun teaching people of all ages. My group lessons usually had between 4 and 8 students. I also had some private lessons with kids as young as five. After a private lesson my students had always made a lot of improvement. After high school I went to college in Durango, Colorado. The school was small and very close to 2 ski resorts, and one winter I worked as a volunteer up at the mountain. My major in school was business but I never forgot about teaching. For a year after college I lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I worked in customer service in a specialty foods store called A Southern Season. Traveling has always been important to me. For many years I have read books and seen movies about Asia. I really wanted to go and live there and I also wanted to teach. So I decided to take a course to get certified to teach ESL. One of my friends at work also taught ESL at a community college. She invited me to help her with her classes. This experience really made me excited to go teach. All the students were very eager to learn and they appreciated my help. After this experience I was sure that I wanted to teach. I looked and found a job teaching kids in Thailand. The youngest students were six and the oldest were about 11 or 12, and my classes ranged from 20 to 34 kids. This was an amzing experience to live and teach in a foreign country. Living and teaching in Thailand for six months taught me a lot about the people, the culture and myself. I learned an immense amount about teaching being in such a different environment. In class we would play a lot of games, but my favorite thing was to work more closely with students. I found they learned the most when I helped them individually. This is why I would enjoy tutoring. It would be very rewarding to see my students improve and to know that I had made a difference.

When I was in high school I had my first teaching experience at Bryce Mountain Resort teaching snowboarding for two winters. I taught a variety of students ranging from ages 5 to 50. My lessons were for beginners in groups of between 4 and 8 students. In addition I taught a few private lessons to kids as young as five. In June of last year I recieved my ESL certification from TEFL Online. During my time taking the course I volunteered to help a friend in her ESL classroom. She taught at a local community college in Raleigh, North Carolina. After completion of the course I applied to teach in Thailand. Before leaving for Thailand I volunteered at a community college in Richmond to obtain some additional experience before going. I spent 6 months living in the south of Thailand teaching ESL to Grades 1, 3 and 5 at an elementary school. During this time I created lesson plans for all of my classes. I also tested the students in writing and speaking proficiency. Teaching ESL was a very rewarding experience. It was enjoyable to help my students and make a difference in their lives.
