study skills Over the course of my own studies, I have learned many types of study skills and also have experience passing them along to students. Time management is the most important thing that young students need to learn in order to be successful in school. Small things like taking reading and study materials along in the car or places where there might be a few minutes of wait-time can really add up over the course of the school year. Breaking up large subjects into manageable pieces is another skill that can greatly reduce the stress of studying and improve learning and test scores. Learning how to plan pieces of writing beforehand, with outlines and notes, is also something that can make a big difference. My years coaching high school rowing has allowed me to pass some of these skills onto students. Although my main job was as a coach, I built deeper relationships with my rowers and was able to assist them manage their busy schedules and maintain or improve their grades with better, more effective, study skills.
