About
Steven: |
|
My 43 years of teaching social studies and social science classes to high school, college, and graduate students, plus doing private tutoring have more than adequaetly prepared me to address any student's needs. I have been very successful in standardized test preparation where my expertise is in reading, writing and thinking.
I went to school in New York State. I taught high school social studies for thirty years. I taught social science courses in a community college in Watertown, NY. Later I moved to Michigan State University where I worked in the Teacher Education Department helping to prepare students to become teachers.
I worked for almost seven years in a learning Center in Okemos, MI mostly in test preparation. I have tutored the ACT,GED,GRE,SAT,TOEFL, MCAT,LSAT,Medical Boards and Physical Therapy Licensing Exam.
I have tutored students ranging in age from 12 to 50, and grades 6-a Russian Woman preparing for her final test of the Medical Boards.
My experience has also included well over a hundred law students at a Law School in Lansing MI.
I am hoping that my experience and expertise will make you want to select me as your tutor.

Steven's Experience:
ACT
|
I had nine years direct experience in helping students prepare for the ACT. I worked for a learning center where I held numerous one on one sessions with students who were having difficulty with the test and wanted to improve their scores.
My students had an eighty percent rate of increasing their scores.
|
GED
|
For nine years I tutored numerous students in the GED. Most of them passed and have now gone on to bigger things.
I devised my own system to deal with the timed nature of this type of test. Many students never finished the test. After working with me, they not only finished the test they increased their scores.

GRE
|
The GRE is not an easy test. It is not as difficult as the MCAT or the LSAT, but almost that hard. These higher level tests are mainly about being able to think independently and to think like a professional, lawyer, doctor etc.
However, they are also reading and thinking tests. I developed a formula for them to select the right answers by knowing a great deal more about the use of language in thinking. I placed heavy emphasis on idioms, inference and vocabulary in context so that the student could use the exam to help get the right answers.
|
LSAT
|
The learning center that I worked for for seven years had a connection with a local law school, and due to my extended knowledge of law, I became the only tutor to handle all law students who were clients of the center.
All of these law students had already graduated from college. However, they soon found out that Law School is very different from that which they encountered in college.
I taught them a system for working out the application of the rules of law to the facts of a case, and worked with them on improving all their skills. By the time I left there I had tutored over 125 students all of whom went on to pass the bar exam and many of them are now practicing lawyers.
