Learn More About Lisa's Experience:

elementary (k-6th) I am certified in Elementary Education (Pre-K through 6th grade) as well as Literacy Education (Birth through 6). Currently, I teach Universal Pre-Kindergarten and have done so for 3 years. Before that I substituted in grades K-6 while obtaining my Masters (in Literacy, see above certification). Since a teenager I was always the "homework helper" and while working in daycare I helped with homework as well. I also tutored friends children as well as my nephew. Mostly, in reading and math, but also Social Studies and Science. I have also tutored fellow students in college while obtaining my undergraduate degree. I tutored writing in the English Department and writing a research paper in the Pyschology Department. Both tutoring jobs were found through the recommendations of professors. I enjoy tutoring and teaching. It is my "calling". I am patient and will work with a child. I have many resources (mostly books and workbooks) but I also have some manipulatives to work with for math or science. phonics I am certified in Literacy. I received my Masters in Literacy at Queens College. I learned and used many strategies to teach phonics. Not only would I tutor phonics but reading parts of books would be part of a tutoring session. I would also require a certain amount of reading practice after school and on the weekends. Reading can be reading anything including magazines and comics and newspapers. It is very important to read. Reading helps you become a better reader. This will help with phonics as well. ALthough, I also believe in direct instruction of course.
