Hi. My name is Urmi, and I am a recent St. John's University Graduate. I just completed my B.S. degree in Biology and am pursuing to enter Dental School; eventually to become a pediatric dentist.
I love tutoring and mentoring students. I have been tutoring since I have been in Dyker Heights Junior High School, tutoring the students who needed help in after school with homework and discipline. After entering New Utrecht High School, I tutored students in younger grade levels with preparation for the regents that I have already taken and done very well in.
I, of course, take on tasks I can handle and am confident in. I am particularly helpful with ESL, reading/writing for elementary through high school students, math and science. I love teaching biology because I find it very intriguing and applicable to everyday life. During high school, in 11th/12th grade, I joined BCA company in which you plan and prepare a summer curriculum for the students (therefore, we are actually the teachers for the summer program). I really loved that position because it allowed me to have more control and an idea of how teachers handle classrooms and how I really affected these students; simultaneously having fun. I graduated High School with honors and scholarship/grants to enter college.
Once I entered St. John's U. in 2004, I joined Jumpstart Mentoring program where I worked one on one with a student in kindergarten, developing his skills that are necessary for him to flourish. I love helping people and have always enjoyed working with people, especially children because of the fact that how they are taught stays with them later on and are influential. For the remainder of my college experience, I was involved in Watson's Pre-Health honor society, St. Vincent de Paul society, and Roger Bacon Honor Society. I also worked as a student worker in the Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology Lab at St. John's helping and conducting various experiments and maintaining the lab needs.
I like to enjoy myself and also engage the students in a fun, free environment where they are able to communicate with me without hesitation. I am very devoted, willing to learn new techniques, patient, competent, and sociable. I hope I can make a good impression on you and hope to be of good help to you. Thank You. |
