I hate writing about myself, but apparently I have to do it. So here goes... Right now I'm a student at West Chester University. I am a mathematics major with a concentration in statistics. I should be finished my undergraduate program in about a year, after which I plan to continue on to get a Master's degree in Applied Statistics. I was originally going to school to become a high school math teacher before I switched to statistics. Basically I hold the opinion that anyone can learn math as long as the person who is teaching it makes the learner feel comfortable and breaks it down in such a way that caters to the student's learning style. I think that a good deal of people's struggles with math result from the fear of it that many people have. The reason I believe this is personal experience. Though I am a math major, I have faced some classes that I considered very intimidating. I have had awesome math professors and others who were...well I don't want to be mean haha. Let's just say they were your stereotypical nerdy, aloof math geniuses who seemed to have nothing in common with students struggling with math (so much for not being mean eh??). But when the professor promotes a laid-back setting and breaks down problems into digestible portions, it makes me (and most of the other students) learn better. Based on that opinion, I would feel inadequate if someone I was tutoring did not progress in the subject; so I will do my absolute best to help anyone understand math in a way that best fits their learning style. Other than math, I am very interested in sports--especially hockey and football. I got to play some professional roller hockey a few years back (nothing even close to NHL-level fame and fortune but it was still fun lol). I have also tutored elementary students in reading from February-May of this year in addition to tutoring high school math students (I prefer math tutoring though).
