 About Lindsey:
Remember the Schoolhouse Rock mantra, "Learning is power"? It is a tragedy that many people never realize that power is just within their grasp, if only they would open their eyes. I am here to help with that process. I graduated from Lamar University in 2007, Summa Cum Laude, with a BA in Music (concentrations in Piano and Voice) and a BS in Biology (Chemistry minor). While attending college, I tutored students in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, physics, government, biology, chemistry, and study skills. In addition, I have had many experiences with instructing labs and study sessions in multiple biology courses. I also taught piano lessons throughout college to students ranging from 4-50 years of age! During this time period, I attended certification classes and worked with an autistic child on a regular basis to improve his communication skills and behavior. I enjoy working with willing students and have a special place in my heart for special needs children. At present, I am employed by Texas A&M University as a Research Technician in the department of Reproductive Biology. This experience has furthered my knowledge of writing, science, and general techniques to ensure success in the future. In July, my husband and I will be moving to Houston where I will begin my PhD in Cancer Biology at MD Anderson in September. As a tutor, I promise to give my best effort and expect the same from my students. Remember, the outcome is only limited to where you choose to take it!

ESL/ESOL
The mastery of a language, especially when it is not one's native tongue, is often viewed as an insurmountable challenge. I often imagine myself in a different country, struggling to understand the language, much less speak it with clarity, and am overwhelmed. This exercise serves to remind me of the struggles others encounter when pursuing English as a second language. It is my hope that I can alleviate these struggles and supply confidence to the speaker through language exercises and conversation. My experience with individuals who are trying to master the language spans a period of five years. As an undergraduate, I tutored a friend from India for the TOEFL exam, which he passed with renewed confidence. In my current position, I am is contact with many visiting students from Asia and South America and have truly enjoyed teaching them as well as learning about their language as well. I find that they seem to feel comfortable due to the fact that I show interest in their culture as well as their success in mastering English. I am a patient teacher as well as an ethusiastic cheerleader. I enjoy imparting my knowledge of the English lanuage to those who wish to learn it.
piano
For 17 years, music has been an integral part of my life. At the age of 6, I began formal training as a pianist and continued lessons until last year. I have a classical background, but also enjoy other musical venues as well. In addition to receiving a degree in music, I have been active as a performer, teacher, accompanist, and entertainer for most of my life. I truly enjoy sharing the gift of music with others, especially through teaching. The techniques I have learned through my studies have proven useful and exciting to those I have taught in the past. Through teaching, I endeavor to show others that life without music is empty indeed.
