About Dexter:

My post-secondary education began in 1971 when I entered the College of Arts, Science and Technology and pursued a 3-year diploma course in Mechanical Engineering. After I graduated in 1974, I worked for one year, and then I traveled to Germany and studied German for 5 months and then completed a 6 month internship in metallurgy. I learned German so that I could converse with the German people while working in their training institutions and factories. I returned home to Jamaica in 1976. I had a 3 year respite from studying, then I began a two-year certificate course in Management Studies at the University of the West Indies in 1979. In 1984, I migrated to the USA and began working at a plastic manufacturing plant in Columbia, Maryland. In 1991, I started to attend Catonsville Community and at the same raising two kids with the help of my wife. I continued studying until I achieved B Sc. in C.I.S 2006 and a M.Ed. in 20007. I completed my teaching internship at a Baltimore City Middle School under the mentorship of a Special Educator. Here, I learned the pragmatics of classroom management. Attributes such as strong leadership, the setting of attainable goals and maintaining discipline are the hallmarks for achieving success in the classroom. I am aware of the different learning styles and each one is addressed during the delivery of my instruction. I have encountered students with varying levels of learning disabilities, and lifestyle issues; I used different motivational strategies to encourage these students to make worthwhile contribution to the class. My classroom experience, and my desire to help students have prepared me to work closely with them to achieve their educational goals.
