About
Alyssa: |
|
Hi! My name is Allie. I am twenty years old and am close to finishing my English Teaching degree. I love English and all that comes with it. I would be a great tutor for the subject because I have such a passion for it. I scored a 33 out of 36 on the reading and writing portions of the ACT as well as passing the AP Literature Test with a 4 out of 5 without any prep classes. I had straight A's through high school in all of my English classes and I am loving my challenging college courses. My favorite part of English to teach is grammar, as well as reading interpretation.
I am also minoring in math education. Strangely, I love Math and English, although I would probably rather teach math! I love everything in this category right up to Calculus. I only receive one A- in all of my 4 math classes in high school and I passes the AP Calculus test with a 4 out of 5. I am told by past students that I make difficult concepts simple and easy to understand.
On the athletic side of things, I love soccer. I have been playing since I was 5 years old. I have played on private club teams since I was 9. In high school, I was MVP of my Varsity team two years in a row, as well as Best Offensive Player. After high school, I coached a U-18 girls soccer team and the Junior Varsity High School soccer team. I still play today and my college intramural team has won the competitive upper division championship twice in the two years we've played.
I also love to teach swimming. I was on a club swim team for several years and then I moved on to teaching. I have taught public and private swim lessons for three years now and thoroughly enjoy it! This last summer I was awarded the Best Instructor.
I also love all types of musical instruments. I have focused on teaching piano because it is basic to all music. I have taught piano for a year and love helping beginning students build their skills!
I seriously love teaching and plan to make it my profession. My professors have observed me and tell me that I am organized and make concepts very clear for students, as well as keeping them interesting! I want you to learn and am willing to be there every step of the way. I like you to learn on your own, and so while I will guide you through and help you where you get stuck, I will push you to learn the material without me holding your hand all the way. I am very patient in my teaching and really enjoy seeing my students succeed! It is the best part of my job!
Hope to see you soon!

piano

I have been taking piano lessons since I was 8 years old. I finished lessons after I graduated high school and continue to play on my own free time. I have performed in various concerts and still perform in various religious functions. I have taught piano lessons to students for a year prior and loved teaching them the basics of the notes and of music reading, rhythm, and composition. Music has always been key in my life as I participated in choir, orchestra, and piano lessons. I know the fundamentals of music very well, have perfect pitch, and am capable of passing on my knowledge to others.

swimming

I began swimming on competitive swim teams when I was 6 years old and also swam for a private club team. I have aided swimming lessons for two years and taught public and private swimming lessons for two years. I have my Water Safety Instructor certification and am current on the latest techniques and teaching styles. I won the Best Instructor of the Session while at my latest recreation center and was highly recommended for private swim lessons. I love to swim and love being in the water and the sun. I love to teach children to swim, no matter if they are afraid of the water or enthusiastic to dive in. I have had experience with all levels of swimming, from pre-K to upper level swimmers and enjoy teaching all levels.
