I am a recent graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Managerial Economics. My academic strengths lie in the areas of math and writing and I am even considering the pursuit of a teaching credential that will allow me to teach mathematics at the high school level. I have experience tutoring elementary/high school level grammar and writing and high school level calculus and precalculus. I believe that academic achievement is based upon three main components: 1) grasping and understanding the subject material, 2) study skills, and 3) test-taking skills. I understand that many students juggle sports and other extracurriculars with their school work, so time management and efficient study methods are crucial to success. I was a student athlete myself and thus try to emphasize the importance of proper study habits. Great houses are built on strong foundations and great academic records begin with an understanding of basic and simple building blocks. Getting straight A's in high school is one thing, but having a solid grasp of a subject matter that will ultimately promote higher learning is the goal. I focus on improvement rather than end results and try to motivate students to get excited about learning. I myself have always enjoyed learning new things and finding answers to difficult problems and I try to pass that enthusiasm along to my students.
