I double majored in French Literature/Language as well as Theater. I received my B.A. from Loyola University Chicago in December of 2004.
As for my theater experiences - I have been working in professional theater for many years either creating costumes as a designer, a stitcher or working as a dresser. As such, I have extensive sewing, patterning, hair and make-up skills and a wide knowledge of costume and hair history. I also knit, crochet and embroider. As part of these experiences I also have training in drawing, painting, and drafting.
I can also teach acting for those who are interested in being under the lights instead behind the scenes. I have a wide knowledge of theater history, acting styles, and voice & diction work.
As for my french experiences - I have been reading, writing, and speaking the language since I was 14 years old. I have served as a translator and guide for several french playwrights, namely Jacques Tephany of the Maison de Jean Vilar (Avignon) and Victor Haim (Paris), as well as their associates during several visits to Chicago. I also studied under a theatre professor who translated these playwrights' works. I also was a part of the French Theatre Festival, which took place in 2004 here in Chicago, During the festival, I also happened to design the costumes for a US premiere play - Climbing the Volcano (L'Escalade).
When teaching French, my style is very reliant upon emersion and repetition. English is used only as necessary for comprehension, depending on the level of the student. Reading, writing, as well as music, radio and other media are incorporated into the curriculum for those who wish to learn outside of school. For those in acadamia of any level, I will work alongside your school lessons and perhaps provide you with some extra pointers. Whether you are just beginning to learn, or have been taking a few semesters of the language already, I can help you!!
