More On Benjamin's Subjects:

  • bass guitar

I have been a profesisonal musician for 30 years. I played bass guitar in several live bands and have taught this insturment to numerous students. I have had students that began taking guitar lessons with me and switched to the bass guitar. One student in particular began his first year at Berklee College of Music in Boston. I was his only bass guitar teacher from the age of 15 on. I feel that it was my instruction that brought him to that level, and he would agree. He made the Dean's List at Berklee this past semester. I am very familiar with all styles of bass and comfortable teaching, jazz, funk, blues, rock, country, slap bass, 2-hand technique, etc.. Whatever your preference I will accommodate your learning requirements.

  • guitar

Guitar has been my primary insturment of choice throughout my 30 year professional career. I am the winner of the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition Midwest Division and competed in the finals held in Seattle. This was a national search in which contestants submitted one cover tune of Jimi and one original tune in his style. I was chosen as one of the 100 finalists from a field of several thousand entrants. Of those 100 finalisits, I was one of the 10 that went on to compete in Seattle. I have toured in Japan, Poland, and Canda, as well as regular gigs in the U.S. I played at the Chicago Blues Fest, opened for or played with, Buddy Guy, Tab Benoit, Koko Taylor, Cheap Trick, Foreigner, Mister Mister, Kansas, Foghat, Bo Diddley, Kinsey Report, Lonnie Brooks, the Original Band of Gypsys (Buddy Miles and Billy Cox) to name a few. My experience translates well in my lessons and I will adapt to whatever your learning style may be. I have released 7 CD's, independently as well as 2 on P-Vine Records in Japan. If you want to learn from someone that knows guitar as well as the business of music, I am the right person. Most importantly is my love of music and wanting to share that with my students.

  • music theory

I have played many Corporate gigs for companies such as Melaluca, Mitsubishi, GMC Detroit Car Show, ALE, Presstech, Domino's Pizza, International Trucking, National Starch and Chemical, Sun Chemicals, Boston Chicken, etc... My knowledge of music theory allows me to walk into a dress rehearsal and be able to read music and understand it. I am well versed in Circle of Fifths, Intervals and Chord Progressions, Modes, sight reading, composition, and cut time. I can teach the basics of music theory or have you ready for Berklee. I have had 5 former students accepted to Berklee College of Music and they have called to thank me for making music theory their easiest class.

  • piano

I can teach sight reading, bass and treble cleffs, chord progressions, scales, blues, jazz, gospel, or rock progressions. I have been playing piano and keyboards for 20 years and have recorded on my CD's. I will walk you through and teach at a pace you are comfortable in learning.

  • voice (music)

I have been the lead singer in all of my bands for the past 30 years. I will teach breathing techniques, scales, and vocal chord care. A person's voice is their instrument as well and must be taken care of. I will assign scales to practice and will explore all different styles of signing, blues, rock, gospel, R&B, and country. A good voice must be exercised.
