I grew up and went to college in Switzerland, where I studied German, French, Italian and Spanish. I went to work for the diplomatic service and had a chance to live in Florence, Italy, Beijing, China and finally came to the US. It is here that I truly became fluent in English and attended Hunter College to pursue a second degree in psychology.
I have used my language skills in various jobs as international liaison in banking and product development as well as in written and spoken translations and interpretations. I was a translator in court cases as well as at trade fairs. I have also tutored individual students, as well as created language programs for special interest groups (i.e. children or older adults). Currently I teach Italian at the local college bringing the culture of that beautiful country into the classroom together with grammatical declinations.
My whole family lives in Europe and I visit them every year, which keeps me close to the events and lifestyles of Europe.
About 15 years ago, I trained as a professional actor in New York City. I studied Meisner and Stella Adler, as well as voice, movement and accent for 4 years. My love for the theater has brought me to be part of numerous theatrical productions off and off-off Broadway. I have also been featured in a few independent movies and commercials (in one I played an Italian professor).
I truly enjoy teaching and bringing a language or a character to life. I believe we learn better if we can involve all our senses and imagine ourselves in the culture that represents a particular language. |
