About
Elisabeth: |
|
I am a teacher in an elementary school in Chicago, with experience engaging students in difficult subject matter and making it seem easy. I have taught SAT/ACT prep classes for several years and can share many strategies for taking these tests the smart way. I have a degree in Journalism and International Studies from Northwestern University, and a master's degree in elementary education from National-Louis University. I truly enjoy working with students one on one, and finding out how to present the material in the way that makes it most accessible for each student. |

Elisabeth's Experience:
ACT
|
I worked for a test prep company from 2002-2006, teaching ACT courses among others. I taught content in all subjects on the ACT, as well as testing strategies addressing ways to test most effectively for the ACT vs. the SAT. I enjoy teaching students how to see the similarities and tricks in different questions, and how to identify the underlying principles being tested. My ACT score was 35 out of 36.

elementary (k-6th)
|
I am a fourth grade teacher certified for K-8, with a master's degree in elementary education. I teach in a self-contained classroom, meaning I teach all subjects and am comfortable tutoring any. The school where I teach is underserved/underperforming, so I am used to helping students increase their success in subjects where they have not had high test scores in the past. I am also experienced in identifying the level at which a student is working, and modifying assignments to meet individual needs.

grammar
|
In my experiences as a journalism student, an intern at a newspaper, and an editor and writer for a textbook publishing company, correct grammar was essential. I teach grammar to my fourth grade students, which keeps me constantly aware of different parts of speech and ways to communicate their uses. Additionally, I am an avid reader and writer; I love words ,and enjoy knowing how to use them correctly and effectively.

proofreading
|
As a journalism major, I took several classes in proofreading, and enjoyed them. I have used these skills in journalism internships, and in my former position as an editor in a textbook publishing company. I continue to keep these skills fresh by teaching proofreading skills to my fourth grade class.
