I am a recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in English Writing and Communication. I am highly qualified to tutor children of all ages because of my expertise in writing, proofreading and coaching basketball.
I am an experienced writer who can teach students of all ages the fundamentals of writing. I not only have superb writing skills but a strong ability to proofread for grammar, spelling, syntax and sentence structure.
During my collegiate career I wrote for a student newspaper, The Pitt News, and interned for the university's alumni magazine, Pitt Magazine. In addition to writing articles, I proofread all articles before publication in two issues of the magazine. When my internship ended, my editor hired me as a freelance writer.
As a writing coach, I can assist young people of all ages to improve their performances in writing school papers. But I will never write for them. One of my strategies is to drive them to think of new ways to approach their own writing and show them why one idea may work better than another.
As a writer, naturally, I am a devoted reader. I can teach children how to retain important points as they read. By quizzing them on information and vocabulary, I can gage their success. If they are struggling, I will teach, coach, and encourage them until they make noticeable improvements.
I developed my teaching and coaching abilities by coaching youth basketball for two summers. I taught my players the basic fundamentals of the game, connected with them personally, and most importantly, made sure they had fun. In addition to tutoring, I can work individually with young basketball players to raise both their confidence and performance levels in youth leagues. |
