 About Nicole:
Hello and welcome! My name is Nicole and I am thrilled to share a little bit about myself in hopes that you and I can work together in the future. I am currently a junior at the University of San Francisco and I am majoring in Philosophy. I was introduced to philosophy when I was quite young and I have studied it for many years. I have also taught introduction to philosophy courses as an assistant to some of my professors in college. Yet, if I hadn’t decided toward philosophy in my studies, I would have utilized my skills in the arts and majored in Visual Arts. I can offer training in either philosophy or art for anyone interested. Outside of school, I have a diverse amount of skills and hobbies. I obtained my pilot’s license a few years ago, which was a lot of fun and a vast amount of work. I have played the piano for over 13 years and have studied music from the classical period through the modern period in the early 1900’s. I was the first chair for singles on the girl’s varsity tennis team in high school and I have participated in international standard ballroom dance competitions. I grew up religious, teaching Sunday school and programs for young women, and I have also created a business that I worked on for two years only to close it recently so that I could finish my degree at school. Now on top of all that, my family and I have ADD, which we have made use of successfully by creating solutions to help improve our communication with each other and especially focus on our goals and studies. I can offer assistance to anyone with learning disabilities as I have been down these roads many times myself and have been quite successful in the outcome. My tutoring experience is minimal, but I have shown natural teaching skills in everything that I do. I like to use a lot of examples and my style often includes making things seem so simple that you’ll wonder why the topics were complex in the first place. I am patient and observing to adapt my style to the needs of the student. I also use a little bit of personality profiling that helps me ask the students the right questions and also broaden their horizons on various subjects. I think this opportunity will be a wonderful experience to have fun, help others learn, as well as learn more about teaching in the process—especially since I am very interested in teaching at a University in my future. Please email me if I exceed your expectations of a tutor, as I hope I should, and we can get started! Thank you for your time, Nicole

Learn More About Nicole's Experience:
drawing
I have been an artist since I was young. I have taken classes in art for the last 8 years with diverse teachers both in drawing, painting, and art history. I have a portfolio of art that I created in a diverse amount of styles: using perspective, perception, cubism, impressionism, still art. Yet most of all, I enjoy putting a philosophy into my art, using types of art that represent my own art and style: realism and idealism. I know art techniques for the pencil, charcoal, pastel, and brush. I understand all the tools and equipment needed for the artist, including cleaning materials. Like most talents and skills, one must know the basics and the history of his or her subject in order to creatively adapt his or her own style. Thus, I often encourage artists to study art history, know the basics of art techniques, and replicate another artist's works to help understand composition, technique, and style. I also know how to have fun with art and I encourage it in all creativity.
piano
I have been a pianist for the last 13 years.I grew up playing the piano for church, jazz band, and of course, myself. I was trained by one of the most experienced piano teachers in Oregon and I enjoyed her style both of rigorous training in warm-ups (scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, etc.) and also fun in working on pieces that allowed me to express myself in the music. We also studied improvisation and jazz as a helpful tool to one's musical ability, along with sight-reading, understanding of major and minor scales and chord types, and fast finger work. As I have indicated in other descriptions about skills and talent, one should know the history and the basics of a subject to build a style of his or her own. I can assist with the history of music from my 13 years of studying the piano and also with the knowledge from an honors level music and art class that I am currently finishing this semester at the University of San Francisco. I also encourage the development of style for how one plays his or her music, just as my teacher allowed me to do.
