About Melva:

. I have been a reading educator for six years employed as an independent contractor with a private tutoring company and as a middle school classroom-reading teacher. I have completed coursework at Florida Atlantic University and passed the Florida Teacher Certification Subject Area Exam, April 21, 2007 in Reading K-12. My desire is to help emergent, reluctant and ESL readers, to facilitate the classroom teacher, and to assist students in reaching their literacy goals. My dynamic teaching instruction focuses on five core topics found in reading comprehension: main idea, inference, sequence, cause and effect, and compare and contrast. I use applicable graphic organizers, authentic literature, FCAT strategies and short passages, as well as, writing and phonics strategies encouraging implementation at school and home.
