 About Doug:
I am presently and frequently the highest rated NSA Scrabble player in the State of California. I am a graduate of the University of California at Riverside with a concentration in English. I am well versed in English, grammar, writing, and know much about nutrition and exercise as well. I enjoy helping people and I give students gentle encouragement to experiment and be creative in solving problems. My tutoring experience so far has been leading a chess class and a science class for 5th graders with STAR Education. Additionally I am a baseball nut and enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. I can teach you all you ever wanted to know about Scrabble, too.

Learn More About Doug's Experience:
baseball
I've been interested in the game since I was a child. I have followed it every season and I know more than 99% of people about it. I have a radio subscription through my computer with MLB.com so I can listen to every single baseball game online every day of the season! I have a baseball card collection numbering approximately 1 million individual cards, including several thousand autographs obtained in person at the dozens of games I've attended throughout childhood and in recent years. I played Little League every year growing up and I played in Pony League until 17, when I injured my ankle severely and stopped playing for a while. I did not try out for the team in college but nevertheless baseball is my number-one favorite game and I had the pleasure a few months ago of visiting the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, a completely worthwhile experience for even a casual fan. I have close friends who deal exclusively in the baseball collectibles business and I am very knowledgeable about the sport recreationally and economically.
grammar
I have been writing semiprofessionally, for myself and for publications, for more than five years. I have a good grasp of the English language and I know how to make intelligent grammar choices where similar options exist. I wrote for The Highlander, the weekly newspaper publication at the University of California at Riverside, for three years. I remain friends with multiple UCR professors, any of whom can attest to my ability and even affinity for grammar and language. I have kept three personal blogs over the years and done extensive blogging for renowned humorist Dave Barry. I have written for various odd-job professional projects and have provided editing and proofreading services routinely to friends, family, and acquaintances for money. I also am a zealous reader and often go through a lengthy book in one sitting. There is no grammar predicament that I cannot handle!
