About Zhong:

I graduated from Duke Unversity and hold Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Biology. I currently work in the financial advisory industry. I would like to get involved in tutoring/teaching as it has always been a passion of mine. I have extensive experience in piano (about 15 years of performing mainly classical). I've won numerous awards and honors and have played at the Carnegie Hall as part of a group concert while in high school. I also have great mathematical proficiency and knowledge. My SAT Math score was 790 and my SAT IIC Math score was 800. As an economics major at Duke, the highest level courses of mathematics I've taken were linear algebra and multivariable calculus. I am a native speaker of mandarin Chinese and can speak and write proficiently. I also have great knowledge of high school-level biology.

More On Zhong's Subjects:

  • Chinese

I am a native speaker of mandarin Chinese. I have a very high level of proficiency in writing, listening and speaking. Although I live in New York, I use Chinese daily. I am comfortable teaching/tutoring the beginner/intermediate levels.

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have had experience interacting with young children in grade school. I've had volunteer experiences in the past such as camp counseling. As far as the material associated with grade school, whether it is reading, writing, math, or science, I have exhibited great performance in each of these areas as a student. As an economics and biology double major at Duke University, I was trained to think mathematically, logically, and scientifically while being exposed to high-level reading and writing. I believe that tutoring/teaching grade school children is a great way of using all the academic knowledge I have learned but not able to use in the every day real life.

  • piano

I have played the piano since the age of 4-5. I studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music until the age of 10 in an environment aimed to produce future professional classical musicians. After coming to the United States, I studied under various professional instructors. In middle school, I was admitted in the the Levine School of Music, a private music institution located in Washington DC. Under the guidance of my instructor, who had studied and taught at the Moscow Conservatory, I compete in many state, national, and international competitions. I had various honors and awards and placed first in a few of the competitions. While at Levine, I was introduced to music theory. My focus was primarily piano performance. Before deciding to go to Duke University for my undergrad, I was given the option of going to Julliard as well as Peabody. While at Duke, I dabbled in chamber music as an extra-curricular activity.

  • poker

I have played texas hold'em poker and seven card for about 8 years now. After these years of experience, I have developed an excellent understanding of both the theory of poker and the gameplay of poker. I personally believe that to excel at poker, it not only requires talent, but more importantly, the experience and the exposure. Having seen countless number of hands through live casino play, online play, and home-game play, I have developed my own style of poker, which involves a combination of understanding mathematical odds, betting patterns of the opponents, and the relative strength of the hand I have. How to play poker correctly is a very subjective topic and in my opinion, there is no one distinct way. However, my sole objective in playing poker is to win.
