About
Bill: |
|
I am an MD who currently works as a free lance medical writer. There is nothing I would like to do more with the time I have to spare than tutor those who are eager to--or simply need to--learn. I love to teach and have been told by students of all ages and abilities, from medical students to kindergartners, that I make learning easy, and even fun.
When I was young, I acquired the nickname "Numbers Kadish". It is just as apt today as it was then. I also love science and believe that if it is taught properly, most students will find it much more interesting and exciting than they do in the classroom.
Over the course of my career as a medical writer, I have come to appreciate how rare and valuable a skill it is to be able to write well. Through years of hard work and the innumerable corrections of my errors by dedicated editors, I have acquired the ability to write well. It would be my pleasure to pass on to others what I have learned.
I was educated at a large, suburban public high school, after which I attended the University of Chicago, and finally Yale Medical School. Although I have never been a paid tutor, I have informally tutored my fellow students throughout the years of my own education. Despite my formal education credentials, I am actually a very easy-going person who uses humor extensively to enliven the learning process. I also have a knack for making complex concepts seem simple.
So, if you are looking for a tutor who can help you understand what you never thought you could and even have fun in the process, look no further. I am just what the doctor ordered! |

Bill's Experience:
Hebrew
|
I am fluent in conversational Hebrew, can read and write modern Hebrew (without vowels), and understand basic Hebrew grammar. I learned Hebrew first in Hebrew school, including an advanced course given weekly for teenagers. I lived in Israel for a summer during high school, for a full year during college, and again for a summer during graduate school. I studied at an Ulpan for 6 months during my year in Israel. I received full course credit at college on a Hebrew placement exam.
I love the language, and teach it based on the system of roots around which the entire language is structured.

physiology
|
I make my living as medical writer, so I deal with issues of human physiology almost every day. I have loved the subject since childhood, and still remember my report on the human body from 4th or 5th grade.
Physiology is an amazing subject, with the answer to each question always raising yet another question. We are fortunate to know as much as we now do about the normal functioning of biological systems, and the study of these systems is fascinating and fun. At least the way I teach it!

statistics
|
I took a statistics course in college, and have been using and learning statistics on a daily basis in the context of my work as a medical writer. I have a small library of statistics books that I consult regularly.
I love statistical thinking and can share that enthusiasm for the subject with students. In particular, I like to highlight all the ways in which statistics can be used to mislead people, and how correct use of statistics can bring hidden truths to light. Statistics is the tool of "data detectives", and solving statistical problems can be as fun as solving any other mystery.
