About Casey:

My motto on tutoring and teaching has always been "Work yourself out of a job." I think that the tutor's job is to promote self-sufficiency, study skills, and the ability to learn, through the help of a tutor. I have been a college and pre-college tutor in a community college for two years, and a private tutor for a high school student for several months. I am a huge believer that students are capable, and so patience and slight guidance are vital. Organizational skills, study skills, and independence are what tutors are to nurture and build in their students. My specialty is English and all subjects associated with it, but I am trained and experienced with a variety of subjects. I will not do the student's homework for them; rather I will motivate, guide, and teach confusing aspects of the assignment.

More On Casey's Subjects:

  • ESL/ESOL

Working as a tutor at Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico for two years, I had the opportunity to tutor ESL students regularly. I had one student from Vietnam, and several that spoke Spanish as their second language. These students were of many different skill levels, and I was able to help them master the English language. As a student at Colorado College, I am an English major with an emphasis in Creative Writing, and this affords me with extensive knowledge of grammar, reading, and punctuation rules. Further, in high school I took four years of Spanish, and have passed the Wyzant Spanish test with a 100%.

  • GED

I took the GED myself, and so I have more of a relationship with people that are taking it, and more knowledge about the test. My scores were Language Arts/Writing: 620; Social Studies: 670; Science: 670; Language Art/Reading: 750; and Mathematics: 670. I have also tutored a student in preparation for the math part of the exam.
