Hi! I am currently a first year student at The Wharton School of Economics of the University of Pennsylvania. My hometown is San Juan, Puerto Rico, and therefore, I am perfectly fluent in both Spanish and English. I have also taken more than three years of French and expect to become proficient soon. This semester I have began to learn Italian in an accelerated course and will spend the summer in Florence further studying the language.
My interests range from learning languages and doing community service, to tracking investments and writing stories and essays. During my high school career I was a well-rounded student. I juggled 5 AP classes while being vice-president of the Student Council for Volunteer Students, Coordinator of students for a school for children with Down syndrome, an avid and dedicated community service worker, and being an active member of the National Honor Society, the Mathematics club and the Art Club.
I understand the pressures of high school and have prided myself on keeping a balance throughout my academic career. As a former student of one of Puerto Rico’s most prestigious private school, Academia Maria Reina, and as a student of one of the most prestigious business school in the world, the Wharton School, I feel qualified to provide much needed support and guidance to my student.
I received various honors and awards upon completion of my senior year. My PSAT/NMSQT scores placed me among the top 40 scores in Puerto Rico, for which I became a candidate and later finalist in the National Merit Scholarship nationwide contest. I was also honored with being a finalist for the Presidential Scholarship and received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and became a Scholar in the Hispanic Recognition Program.
At the top of an extremely competitive class, I was valedictorian at my high school graduation. I also received first honors during all of my academic years, and the First Honor Medal at my graduation.
Although I am aware that I am relatively young, I believe this is much more a benefit than a detriment. I will be able to relate directly to my customer, as I was recently in his or her place, and fully understand the demands of high school.
My personality assures the customer that I will be an understanding, patient, trustworthy, and caring tutor. I also take pride in being creative, a characteristic that allows me to expand my tutoring methods to fit a particular customer’s needs. My goal transcends helping a student pass a difficult test, or raise his or her grades in a subject; rather, the student and I will strive to succeed in grasping a subject so that the customer will enjoy and take pride in his or her learning experience.
Please feel free to contact me for recommendations or if you have any questions or comments. I greatly appreciate your business and look forward to working with you!
