discrete math
|
Dear Sirs,
I believe I am very well qualified to teach elementary-level math. I have been an elementary school teacher since 1990. From that year until 1994 I was a homeroom teacher for first and second grade bilingual school students in the Dominican Republic. During those years I was responsible for the students' achievement of academic goals in math.
During the 1999-2000 school year I was a third grade classroom teacher in an American school in the Dominican Republic. Here I was also responsible for the students' achievements in math.
Finally, I have had experience tutoring students in elementary and middle school levels in math, so I have the background needed to offer support to students in this area.

ESL/ESOL
|
Dear Sirs,
My main area of expertise is ESL. Therefore, I am highly qualified to offer tutoring in this area.
I am a certified ESL teacher in the state of Georgia. This certification qualifies me to teach English Language students in grades K-12.
Besides my academic preparation (Early Childhood Education Course and ESOL masters degree), all my teaching experience has developed with children whose first language is not English. In the Dominican Republic I taught elementary and middle school basic subjects. These content areas were developed for the students in English through the immersion model.
During the last four years I have been an ESOL teacher for Title 1 schools in Gwinnett and Dekalb county. My evaluations have proven that I have exceeded expectations through my work with the students.
Therefore, I believe this is the area where I would most benefit my tutoring students.

grammar
|
As an ESOL teacher, one of the areas in which I excel is grammar. It is imperative for English Language Learners to firmly grasp the complexities of English grammar rules. The best way to aid them in the comprehension of these is to teach them explicitly and in the context of what is already familiar to them. Teaching grammar through the content areas is a meaningful experience for both native and non-native speakers of English. The use of all approaches named above will enable the learner to acquire comprehension of grammar rules.
Finally, the knowledge achieved during the grammar of English course I took in England was vital in my teaching career. I am sure it will aid in my work as a tutor as well.

phonics
|
Dear sirs,
Not only am I interested in teaching phonics, I am also very well qualified for it. I have 18 years of experience tutoring students in this subject area, and teaching it in the classroom. I am also well trained to teach it through the post-graduate courses I have completed. The first course, Early Childhood Education, prepared me to teach reading to elementary school children. The second, Teaching English to Young Learners, was a masters-degree program I completed in the United Kingdom. Said program included a phonology course which set the basis for the rest of my preparation as an English Language Teacher. These courses, my teaching experience, and my ongoing professional development, enable me to be a very highly qualified teacher of phonics.
