About

|
I lived in Japan for two and a half years, and before that studied Japanese for 2 years in college, which gives me 4 and a half years of experience with the language. I was teaching English in Japan but I spent a lot of my free time studying the written and spoken language, as well as using my vacation time to volunteer in places where no one spoke English. My profile title is from a funny likeness of my last name "Miller" to "Mirror" in Japanese pronunciation, in fact they sound the same to Japanese people. Kagami is the Japanese word for mirror, and sensei means teacher, so I was known to many of my students as Kagami Sensei.
I am a very flexible teacher. I will teach you based on your level of Japanese. If you are more advanced, I can teach you with little to no explanation in English, or if you are a beginner I can explain in English. I would also like to know your language-learning style, whether it's more listening or reading based.
If you are interested in ESL, I have a lot of experience in Japan doing EFL, and some experience tutoring international students at my college. I am very interested in other cultures so please teach me about yours in English! |

I studied Japanese for 2 years in college. After graduating, I lived in Japan for 2 and a half years continuing my study of the language. I tested and passed level 2 of the Japanese Proficiency Test in Japan, which is the second most difficult level.
I would be comfortable teaching beginner to intermediate level of conversational Japanese. I can also teach writing and grammar of a beginning level student, but intermediate might be difficult for me.
