Hello! Thank you for checking out my profile. I received my high school diploma from duPont Manual High School and YPAS in Louisville, KY, in 2001, and my BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, in 2005. I have travelled extensively in Europe, learning Spanish fluently and becoming a proficient French speaker and travel writer. I am also a self-taught advanced pianist with 12 years of experience.

I am highly qualified as a tutor, but also consider myself a student. Much of what I know is self-taught, and then reinforced by educational institutions. I believe the learning process is and ought to be thrilling and perpetual. Therefore, I seek not only to teach whatever material is necessary to be learned at the time of tutoring, but also to impart the excitement I feel for learning and to inspire self-driven education.

I have taught for a total of three years, working as an ESL tutor in Madrid, Spain and as a high school English language and literature, and elementary and high school Spanish teacher in Louisville, KY. My teaching style is structured, but highly-individualized and interactive. I do not believe in spoonfeeding information, but in giving all students the necessary tools to find their way through whatever they are learning even after the tutoring session has ended.

  In 2004, I helped plan and teach a biology and nature course at Stoney Point Elementary in Charlottesville, VA, and have been the elementary Spanish teacher at Evangel Christian School since August of 2006. I have a keen attention span and good patience for the learning needs of younger students.

• ESL/ESOL

  I taught ESL from August of 2005 to June of 2006 in Madrid, Spain, to business students at GES Global English School. I also have some experience tutoring peers in Spanish while in college. My abilities as a creative writer and lover of languages, combined with my experience, give me an added edge to teach ESL students of any age with excitement, creativity, and dedication.

  I have the perspective of a learner of foreign languages--having had to learn my English grammar extensively in order to become well-acquainted with the Spanish language--, a college graduate in English, and a high school English teacher to contribute to any student who wants to sharply improve their grammar. My knowledge of the subject is strong, and I very much enjoy teaching it.

  I have twelve years of experience as a self-taught pianist and student of music theory. Although self-taught, I have a very extensive understanding of and love for the piano. I also studied musical theater while at the Youth Performing Arts High School in Louisville, KY.
