Hello! My name is Zach, and I'm a teacher/tutor by day and stand-up comic by night. While I love to make people laugh, I'm serious about having great learning experiences with my students.
I've been teaching since I was a teenager, when I was a peer tutor in math and social studies at my high school in Springfield, Missouri. I also taught classes at the Hebrew school at my local synagogue. After high school, I went to Brandeis University and graduated with a 3.9 GPA and lots of honors - magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, National Merit Scholar, and eight semesters on the dean's list. While at Brandeis, I taught classes at another Hebrew school, in Belmont, Mass, and also did some one-on-one tutoring. During my summers, I often work as an instructor at performing arts programs, which is always fun. Over the years, I've taught my students how to act, write, perform improv comedy, make funny videos, rap, and create their own hip-hop beats.
As far as my educational philosophy goes, I think learning should be focused, but also energetic, lively, and enjoyable. I’m a patient teacher, and I think that a respectful and caring relationship between tutor and student is very important. I asked some of my former students to describe my style for you, and here's what they said:
"I learned a new skill while having a fantastic time!”
“Zach was a fun teacher who really gave me great individual attention.”
“You made it easy to pick up something that I thought was hard.”
Feel free to contact me with any more questions. I hope to hear from you soon! -Zach
