bass guitar I have played standard guitar for 30 years. The low four strings of the standard guitar are tuned the same (only two octaves higher) as the bass guitar so the theory is the same. I played electric bass for three years in a rock band when I was younger. Also I know enough about chord theory to improvise a bass line if I know the chord progression. For example a blues in G will involve chords G-C and D(usually D7) so just playing G-C-and D at the right times will work although jazzing it up with the other notes in each chord will make it sound better. Sometimes stepping up (or down) one fret to the target note can be cool but there is no general rule for it - you just have to feel it -- after seeing someone else do it. general computer I have a MS in computer science.
