I am a certified teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. I graduated from Texas A&M University with honors. I have taught all grades from 1st through 6th. I enjoy young children who are still so excited about learning. However, I also love young adolescents as they are adjusting to middle school, more responsibility, and raging hormones all at the same time. I am the mother of two teenagers.

• elementary (k-6th)

  I have taught all elementary grades from 1st through 6th and taught all subject areas. I have 15 years of experience and am very qualified to teach this age group.

• grammar

  I have taught all elementary grades 1st through 6th. I specifically taught Language Arts (reading and writing) to 5th graders for 2 years and to 6th graders for two years. This experience certainly qualifies me to teach any subject within the Language Arts area such as grammar, literature, or composition.

• phonics

  I have taught all grades from first through sixth. I taught many first graders how to read early in my teaching career using phonics as well as whole language concepts. I have privately tutored young readers in my home with great success. And of course, I taught my own two children to read!

• proofreading

  I have taught Language Arts (reading and writing) to all elementary grades but Language Arts exclusively for 2 years (5th grade) and for 2 years (6th grade). Last school year, I won a local writing contest for an essay entitled "This I Know" regarding what I know about the effect teachers have on their students. I was awarded a $500 grant. Proofreading is a specific skill taught and tested here in Texas, so it is an area I am particularly qualified to help students with.

• study skills

  My most recent teaching assignment was with 6th graders. This is an age where hormones and socializing are just as important to students as school work. That being the case, teaching specific study skills is very important for the success of middle schoolers. Learning how to get organized and how to study was an integral part of the curriculum on my campus. I am also the mother of two teenagers, so between parenting and teaching, I definitely have a handle on how to assist students with study skills.
