About Marjorie:

My passion is language and I love teaching individual students French and English. I earned my French degree from the University of Paris after two fabulous years of living and traveling in France and Europe. I have been a teacher all my adult life both within the educational system, elementary through college, and have extended experience teaching private students. I have been teaching French and English at Berlitz Language School for the past 10 years and am currently also teaching GED and ESL. Presently I am teaching English to a Mexican adult. I am particularly fond of tutoring individual students since I am then able to give my full attention to leading them from where they are to the goal they have expressed. I have never stopped being a student as well; I am currently learning Spanish. I find that it keeps me aware of all that the learning/teaching process entails.

More On Marjorie's Subjects:

  • ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL at Berlitz Language Center in St. Louis from 1995 to the present. My students have come from many countries: Mexico, Argentina, France, Brazil, Spain, and Nigeria, among many others. I am also certified in ESL from the State of Missouri and have taught in the St. Louis Public Schools Adult Education and Literacy program for the past several years. My students here were from Bosnia and Mexico. I am particularly interested in helping students from other countries become functional in the language since I have had the experience of living abroad and learning other languages.

  • GED

I have taught GED in the St. Louis Public Schools Adult Education program for the past three years, and am now certified with a permanent professional certificate from the state of Missouri. GED is of particular interest for me since I have made a life committment to help those who are marginalized in any way, especially those who are caught in the cycle of not being able to advance because of lack of education. So many young persons today are outside the mainstream due to having dropped out of school for various reasons. I feel that earning their GED is their only key to achieving their career goals. I want to be able to help them obtain this key.
