About Cori:

I am interested in a tutoring position that will not hamper my constructivist teaching style. In this, I mean to present familiar concepts that will allow students to draw on prior knowledge in order to learn new information. I am convinced that your desire for innovating teaching will be of interest to me and that I will prove beneficial as your tutor. As a recent graduate, I have had the privilege of observing and teaching in various types of classroom settings. I have worked with special needs as well as gifted children. Many of my cooperating teachers have allowed me to experiment with my love of technology. In so doing, on Sesame Street’s website Elmo has assisted me in teaching fire safety in a pre-k class at Kalfas Elementary. In addition, Pencil Pete, an animated computer generated pencil, was placed on a wide screen in a Niagara Street Elementary School's third grade class, to assist me with cursive writing lessons. Currently, I am a first year third grade teacher. My position with the Clark County School District, affords me familiarity with and access to core curriculum procedures. I use Harcourt Trophies, Investigations, FOSS and Write From The Beginning programs. On a lighter side I love to read poetry and Shakespeare and usually incorporate both in my lessons. Again, because of my love for technology I present many lessons on power point with amazing graphics. I require that my students work hard, and that I work even harder to make lessons enjoyable.
