About
Ari: |
Hi, my name is Ari. I am a Columbia University graduate with a BA in Comparative Literature. My background and experience enable me to teach Writing (creative, expository and research), English (vocabulary, grammar and comprehension), college applications (essays and personal statements), test preparation (SAT, Regents, GRE, GED, etc.) and organization, study-skills and academic planning.
I am familiar with what it means to struggle in an academic environment; however, I also understand what it means to emerge successfully from those difficulties, achieving at a high level. In addition to tutoring individual subjects, I can help you develop and implement the strategies, both academic and organizational, that will allow you to take advantage of your unique strengths and to minimize the effect of your weaknesses.
I've worked as an independent tutor at the high-school, college and post-college level. I've helped students get into Cornell and Harvard Business School. I've taught English and Writing, working with students to hone their command of the language and achieve higher grades. While at Columbia, I tutored students with ADD/ADHD in study skills and time management. At The Door, a non-profit that supports at risk youth, I designed, organized and lead an English class for ESL students. Throughout, my commitment to excellence, ability to express myself clearly and attentiveness to student concerns has enabled me to help my students excel, no matter what their academic experience has been.
I'm fun, engaging and passionate. I love teaching. I love writing. And, I very much look forward to working with you! |

Ari's Experience:
religion
|
During college, I completed a variety of coursework (e.g. a course on religion in China and Japan, a course on religion in India and the Middle-East, etc.) that required competency in many of the major religious texts (Diamond Sutra, Koran, Old Testament, New Testament, Tao Te Ching, Gita Govinda, Mahabharata, etc.) and major religious thinkers, both prophets and saints (Buddha, Jesus, St. Francis, Moses, Mo Tzu, Confucius, etc.) and academics (Scholem, James, Eliade, etc.). Additionally, this is one of my principle interests as a writer, so I have continued to read and study the topic up to the present day.
