About
Scott: |
|
My undergraduate degree program emphasized training in the literary analysis of the wide variety of texts found in the Bible. As a result, my ability to understand and communicate sound principles associated figuring out an author's intended meaning has been greatly enhanced. In order to obtain state of Florida certification in the field of secondary English, I completed a number of additional literature and writing courses at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. I won second place in the FCCJ short story contest in 2004. I have completed graduate coursework in education at Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA. I have taught and tutored secondary students in reading, writing, speaking, FCAT preparation and SAT preparation for three years. My work as a professional educator has been in a private school, a public school, and for another well established tutoring agency. I’ve played piano for 15 years. I have had 4 or 5 years of private instruction in piano and currently work with a number of self-paced, computer-based music applications with which I am able train myself and students in areas such as ear training, music theory, rhythm development, dictation, and improvisation.
In my opinion, there is nothing that can replace the elements of positive regard and genuine concern for a student's welfare in developing a relationship that leads to educational success. Also, I've found that the use of humor is helpful in developing a positive relationship with the individual learner. People usually seem to learn the most from likable teachers who are quick to recognize personal achievement. I must insist that every student can learn and succeed in an environment that is conducive to learning. I believe in encouraging students to pursue positive personal interests and goals through exploration, analysis, and practice. I think that all learners should develop the interpersonal skills necessary to participate in collaborative projects. Finally, I try to guide my students towards becoming curious individuals who will enjoy learning to the extent that they choose to grow in knowledge during their entire lives.
