About Hillary:

I recently graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in May of 2007 with a degree in English. After college, I moved to Washington D.C. to work for the Smithsonian American Art Museum. I've recently moved back to Birmingham to pursue a career in the health sciences. I have a lot of experience with children and creative learning techniques. For the past three summers I've worked as a program director at a camp on Long Island. I was responsible for planning all the activities for a group of 20 to 30 children. This was a challenging job, but one that I really enjoyed. In college I also served as a tutor to international students. One of my first lessons with a student was spent in the grocery store going over the names of foods. The months I spent working with my students were some of the most interesting and rewarding. I find that learning is most effective when it is fun. Not every subject will be interesting, but I always try to come up with a creative and simple way of explaining complex ideas. I also think that a good relationship between the student and teacher is important. On the first session I always try to take some time to get to know the student's interests, likes and dislikes, and to some extent, their learning style.
