About August

My name is Gus Smalley. I am a Dallas native and University of Texas grad, and I have been living in Austin for 7 years now!

My passions include writing, reading, fishing, independant music, inventing, technology, entrepreneurship and sports (particularly football and basketball). I was a camp counselor and sports director for three years at an Episcopal Church in Dallas, and I feel priveledged helping youths recognize their natural strengths and identify and improve upon their weaknesses.

My tutoring style is one of patience and encouragement. Personally, I learn and retain skills best when I fully understand each concept, its relevance, and how it interacts with other concepts and ideas within the given subject.

I believe that simply memorizing facts is only useful in the short-term, but if a person can talk through each concept and wrap his or her mind around it, that person will be able to retain that information much longer and draw from that knowledge long into the future!
