About
Gerard: |
I love meeting and making new friends from various cultural, ethnic & academic background while having fun. One excellent way to do so is to tutor other on areas that I have lots of experience. I am a polyglot, i.e., I am fluent in English, French & Vietnamese; I am business fluent in Japanese; orally fluent in Cantonese and I know a little bit of Spanish as well. I lived and graduated from high school in Paris, France. I traveled extensively across the world (Western Europe, Asia, Northern America, Hawaii, The Caribbean). I also lived in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore & Vietnam. I love to experience new cultures via food & eating. I've been tutoring for 24+ years now. I have tutored folks in the U.S., in France, in Asia wherever I have lived and worked. My philosophy about teaching: "Be open minded, listen, focus, be kind, be honest, be patient, be flexible and above all: be willing to learn. One would be amazed how much one does not know and how much one would learn from his/her student! I teach hands on, open communication and for my natural languages students, 'total immersion' is the only and best way to go. There is no such thing as a 'stupid' question: just ask when you don't know something. If I don't have an answer to your question, I'd find out and would get back to you A.S.A.P"
I have an AA in Mathematics, an AS in Physics and an AA in Liberal Arts. My major at San Jose State University is Computer Engineering. I am an Instructional Assistant in an adult High School Diploma & GED program at MetroED. I have administered the CELDT (California English Language Development Test) for K-12 students for 5 years and provided remedial custom help to those "English Learners" (also known as E.S.L -- English as a Second Language). I have worked in the I.T. (Information Technology) field as a programmer, support specialist in the U.S. and in Asia.
I love travel, food, movies, music, books, sports and making new friends.
