About
Renee: |
|
I don't learn by memorizing - I like to understand WHY...so that's how I teach.
FRENCH:
After getting an undergraduate degree in French, I continued honing my language skills living and working overseas in Europe and W. Africa. I also used my French interpreting during the 1996 Olympics.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
I like to use photography to explore the world around me. My style is social documentary and I excel in photo editing. I can help you understand what makes a good photo, how to execute winning images and put together a dynamite portfolio.
ESL:
I have a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and having learned several languages myself have developed strategies to make learning English less difficult. |

grammar

Thanks to my Great Aunt who was a "language snob." I can not only tell you that a sentence sounds wrong but I can tell you why. I can help with punctuation, grammar and composition.

In Graduate School I studied Photojournalism and worked as an intern at three newspapers before deciding that I wanted to cover social and cultural issues. I specialize in environmental portraits and documentary photography and have had my images appear in newspapers, magazines and exhibits. I have also taught seminars on documenting community and 10 best practices to taking better photos. I consider editing photographs and choosing images to include in a slideshow or portfolio an important step in presenting ones work and have assisted many students in developing their style by learning to evaluate photos.

sewing
|
When I was a young teen I wanted to learn how to make turtlenecks so my parents bought me an old Singer Featherweight and I learned how to sew with knits. Since then I have taught myself how to sew and do many kinds of embroidery and applique. I am agile at adapting patterns, adding decorative accents and choosing the right materials. I can offer classes in beginning hand and machine sewing and embroidery.
