 About Alysia:
Hi I'm Alysia.
I am mainly a piano tutor and I have been playing piano for the past ten years. I am a piano performance major at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago and I am now starting my fourth year there. I also have taken extensive music history and theory classes and can tutor on those subjects as well.

Two summers ago I taught piano lessons at the Allegro Academy of Music in Lemont,IL. And I currently have three students that I tutor for piano.

I also mentor a few of my classmates at my current university. And in high school I have acted as mentor to a few of my fellow classmates in preparation for piano competitions.

My teaching style definitely emphasizes the importance of correct notes, however notes are not the only important part of piano. I also encourage musical development and I also teach students how to bring emotion out through music. I enjoy working with people of all age groups, and I love helping others especially with music.

The subjects I tutor are:
-American History
-European History
-Geography
-Spanish
-Music Theory
-Music History
-Piano
-Prealgebra

Learn More About Alysia's Experience:
music history
apart from Piano, Music history is my second passion. I've taken numerous classes in Music History and I plan on obtaining a minor in Music History at Roosevelt University. I also plan on studying music history/musicology in graduate school. So far I have taken 6 music history course including: Western Music until 1750, Music History from 1750-late 1800s, Music History from around 1900 to present, American Music history, Art Song literature, and Performance practice since 1750. Each semester I try to take at least one music history class, and I have gotten A's in all but one music history class. I also plan on writing my undergrad senior thesis on a music history topic.
music theory
Music theory is also another academic music subject that I also really do enjoy. So far in my undergraduate studies I have taken five courses in music theory. Three of my courses have covered tonal harmony and I have taken a course in atonal music theory and a course in 'Form and Analysis' which is the study of how certain pieces are structured. In the near future I am to take another music theory course called 'Baroque Counterpoint' which is a course focusing on Baroque music and the structure of certain pieces such as 'fugues.' Music theory is one of my strong points, however I have to say that atonal music theory is really my strongest area in music theory.
piano
I've been playing piano since I was ten years old, now I'm 20 and I study piano performance at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in Downtown Chicago. My two current teachers are Dr. Ani Gogova (Doctorate of Musical Arts from University of Michigan Ann Arbor) and Katherine Lee (Artist Diploma from Yale University). I have competed in local piano competitions from the time I started piano until I was 15 years old and I am well aware of how to prepare for competitions. And I am well aware of preparing for music auditions as well as playing exams. I am currently finishing up my junior year at the Chicago College of Performing Arts and plan on giving a recital sometime this fall. In the past and present I have tutored and mentored people of different age groups for piano. I have covered how to play scales and arpeggios, technical /strengthening exercises, and I have taught lessons as well. I've also helped fellow students prepare for competitions and I have also coached students on proper posture and proper technique. I enjoy tutoring and teaching piano because I know that I can help others and put my knowledge of piano to good use.
