I started really getting the opportunity to tutor in Highschool when I helped out in an ELL math class. This class was full of students that seemed to know enough English to understand me and for me to understand them, but they were still in the process of learning English better. They were also having difficulty understanding math. I worked with them on the basics. Some of them struggled with remembering their multiplication tables while other struggled more with measurements. So, I got some practice reviewing math problems that I haven't done for awhile in that class. The students seemed to really get to like me in that class and I really enjoyed getting to know them too. I believe that I have made a friend in all my students and I try to be a friend of every student that I tutor. Now I am also tutoring at DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College) in Ankeny. I want to tutor all I can, however, and be available to as many students as I can, so I thought I would try to see what tutoring with WyzAnt is like. I really have enjoyed my tutoring experience in Highschool and my tutoring experience at DMACC that I want to tutor as much as I can. I have tutoring students in Arithmetic, Algebra, and even Study Strategies. I am also able to tutor students in Microsoft Word, Basic Spanish, Excel, Bible Studies, prealgebra, vocabulary and writing. Along with those subjects I also have the possibility of becoming a tutor in a few other subjects as well.
My tutoring style is I get to know the student a little bit and try to figure out how they learn best. If they are a kenesthetic learner I try to help them by getting them to write out the problems that they are learning or I try to teach them in a way that they can learn with their hands. If the student is an auditory learner I try to teach them in a way that they can hear how to do their work and if they are a visual learner I try to show them how to do the work. In fact, most of the time no matter what kind of learner the student is I try to incorporate all three learning styles into my tutoring. I realize that people remember more of what they hear, see and write down, then they remember what they just hear, just see or just write down alone.
