 About Regis:
Hi! I am a natural teacher who genuinely cares about the whole student and their development. One sided development is not commendable, and so my approach to teaching is positive, goal-centered and fun! If I have one real gift in life, it's to believe in the ability of my students to progress beyond mere knowledge into understanding. All discipline is merely to serve a creative process which happens inside of each student, giving them the enthusiasm to learn. Beginning in the 8th grade, I have been involved with teaching computer skills to students. Professionally, I worked in technical support at major companies Sun Microsystems, Apple Computer, Cisco Systems and had my own computer consulting firm for a time. I am basically a jack of all trades in computers- I can do everything from website and logo design to complex networking as well as computer skills training for groups or individuals. I mentored and coached for free for almost 20 years young elite athletes in bicycle racing. The athletes I coached won many National and State level races and competed throughout the world. I lived in an ashram (an Indian monastery) as a volunteer staff in Grass Valley for 3 years and taught Yoga, anatomy, basic kinesiology and physiology to yoga teachers. I am certified to teach Sivananda Yoga. I competed at the high level in several different sports- volleyball being my family sport, I have played this from a very young age and can show you everything from beginning to advanced skills. I have competed in bicycle racing, triathlons, racquetball and table tennis at a National caliber level. I have a deep knowledge of systems of the body, movement, sports and yoga psychology. I am a published poet and am currently authoring a book on Yoga.

Learn More About Regis's Experience:
anatomy
I taught anatomy to yoga teachers at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in Grass Valley and after in my own business as a yoga teacher, and was a coach of elite endurance athletes for almost 20 years. While muscles and bones have been a primary focus for me, I am well aware of the other primary systems of the body, the brain, respiratory and pulmonary systems in particular, energy production systems in muscles, glandular health and their practical implications in sport and general health. When I teach anatomy, I use practical examples to do so. For example, if I want the student to grasp where the infraspinatus muscle is, I need to show him or her how to move this muscle, it's surrounding coordinating muscles like the teres minor below it, what bones it connects to and then give some practical examples of issues people would have with it, it's role in balanced movement, etc. In the case of the infraspinatus, the shoulder has 10 separate directional movements, 4 of which the infraspinatus would participate in in an active manner. In this way, the student can grasp more fully the subject matter.
general computer
If you want to learn anything about computers, it would be difficult to find something I don't know about them and am enthusiastic about sharing. My way of teaching is fun and challenging also. My experience in computers began in the 7th grade and by the 8th grade I was being pulled out of my own school classes to assist faculty in repairing and diagnosing computers. I have made my living for many years in many fields of computing for the average person and graphic designers in particular. I worked for Quark, Inc. for 2 years and Apple Computer as a senior technical support rep for 3 years as well as a Quality Assurance Software Engineer. I worked for Sun Microsystems for 2 years on UNIX systems as a tech support rep for system administrators. I have done consulting in two separate private firms, one being my own. I know almost every aspect of computer work quite deeply, except for development/programming. My skills range from applications on UNIX, Windows, Office products, graphic design products, and Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (the UNIX based OS), network design, basic hardware repair and upgrades, backups, web design and troubleshooting almost any electronic device that uses software.
networking (computer)
Having worked at two consulting firms and designed many networks for clients and workplaces, I can safely say I am quite familiar with computer networking, the protocols used for communication and troubleshooting methods. Before the standard of TCP/IP was in as broad use as it is today, I was troubleshooting AppleTalk networks and networks using only phone lines and coaxial cables. I have worked in very mixed environments for huge corporations and am familiar with the difficulties faced by Windows, UNIX and Macintosh users to a deep level. Basic routers and routing protocols, wireless networks and security procedures are also well understood by me.
photoshop
In my graphic design technical support employment at Quark, Photoshop was a primary tool, and one I needed to troubleshoot quite often- both as we imported those graphics in the page layout program I supported, and on it's own. Later, I became a graphic and web designer designer myself, and learned these skills to quite a depth. Key skills like non-destructive photo retouching, layering, masks, effects, brushes, pen tool skills, and working with other Adobe products like Illustrator, Acrobat, GoLive and Dreamweaver to create web designs and re-usable graphics I can show you. My enjoyment of using Photoshop as a tool is seconded only by my experience using it. I hope to have the chance to teach you something useful.
swimming
I have worked with youth elite athletes for many years, and enjoy working with younger people immensely. As a former triathlete, I took many private sessions with a swim coach to hone my technical skills, and even though out of shape now I feel I can show everyone from a beginner starting out to a more advanced swimmer new skills. As a coach of cyclists and triathletes for many years, I feel confident that my swim instruction would meet your needs. Even my girlfriend is an Olympic bronze medalist in swimming! :-)
volleyball
Volleyball was my first ever sport. I have been playing beach volleyball basically since birth. My father was one of the top players in the state of Florida during the formative years of the sport in the 70s and 80s. Although I moved a lot, I was on a couple of six-man teams indoors and have been to many skills camps as a youth. Mostly, however, I played two-man beach ball. I have had the privilege of knowing many top professional and Olympic six-man athletes like Mike Dodd and Tim Hovland, Sinjin Smith, Randy Stoklos, and Karch Kiraly. Many of these men stayed at my dad's house during tournaments, and I received instructions from them also. I have played many sports in my lifetime, but volleyball is my most well-known sport because of the amount of time I have been playing it.
web design
I design websites as a side freelance business, and designed my own website as well. Along with my other graphic design and computer skills, this is a great way to communicate to the world who you are or your business messages. Web Design involves many things, as it sits in the middle of some good design sensibility, a lot of technical know-how, and how to design things for your client's (or your own) needs. Also, there are many web tools, traffic analyzers, and software tools one must get to know- from the main Adobe products like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, GoLive, ImageReady, Illustrator, Flash, and so on, as well as smaller tools that automate blog, Flash and button creation. It's a large and exciting world to discover in web design, and one that can be very rewarding to pay with or to begin a career in. I look forward to introducing you to it.
