About
Johnathon: |
|
I have tutored people all my life, from classmates during grade school and college, to a hostel worker in Nazareth on a trip through Israel this past summer.
While institutionalized learning does not always provide the road to understanding but when it is reached, no one can take that away from the comprehending mind.
I was a gifted student from a young age, but always felt hampered by confines of the educational system. I always had a love of learning, however.
This carried me through the rote routine of high school and college at William Paterson University, leading me to the path of philosophy and eventually Anthropology, in a search for the truth.
I have studied intensely outside of the collegiate setting: major works of literature, chess, music and film, physics and mathematics, Biblical studies and world religions, Political Economy and World History, and of course for my travels in Israel, Hebrew.
I have never been confined to learning a particular discipline and that has been my greatest strength as well as a weakness because I do not have the specialized knowledge needed in today's world. I think one will find if one works with me however, that I can provide the full breadth of a subject as well as drawing connections to other disciplines, hopefully bringing the understanding needed to excel in education. |

Johnathon's Experience:
Bible studies
|
I have read the Bible since I was a child, never fully grasping its depth. In recent years, I have returned to this study with full force, reading from the original Hebrew and Greek to capture the full meaning.
I am fully confident that I can teach not only the stories of the Bible, but provide their true significance as to the nature of G-D, if given the opportunity.
|
chess
|
I have played chess since I was a little boy.
It took me ten years before I ever realized the essence of chess was: time, space and materials (I didn't figure that out, I had to read many books on chess theory)
I feel that not only do I have the prerequisite skills to know the game, but that I am uniquely gifted to teach the game as well, as I do with everyone that I play against who needs more practice.

religion
|
Both through my own personal quest for truth and my four years in college studying Philosophy, I have come not only to understand Truth, but all its various forms and guises in religion.
I have read the literary works of the world's great religions and studied the cultures of ones that produced no writings. Through Anthropology, my other major in college, I have come to understand not only the Truth to which religion speaks, but the human cultural web from which it is woven.
