 About Rachel:
Students describe me as an energetic instructor with personality. My lessons are not boring. I love to learn with my students, so I don't try to come off as a know-it-all.

Still, I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring a wide variety of subject matter. I have been a college instructor for fifteen years. I have taught classes in American and World History, Government, English, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and more, to both high school and college students alike!

I am also certified by the College Reading and Learning Association as a Master Tutor. I have served at two different colleges in that capacity and had a great time. Some of the subjects tutored were: English, Study Skills, Psychology, Sociology, Public Speaking, Literature, Forensics & Debate, Theatre, ESL, and History.

Let's learn something new together!

Learn More About Rachel's Experience:
ESL/ESOL
I have enjoyed helping students speak better English for many years. Sometimes, I have helped teach students informally and other times I have worked through a college. Most of my experience in this area involves assisting with pronunciation, but I have also assisted students with reading and grammar. My experience as a Speech Teacher, Speaking Coach, and National Speech Champion could help you. We might even have fun along the way.
proofreading
I am a competent proofreader. In fact, the ability follows me everywhere. I seem to notice errors that others read over. For instance, I was signing a contract a few weeks ago. I noticed several spelling and grammatical errors on the contract. When I said something to the person offering me the contract, they were really shocked because the company had been using the contract for nearly ten years and no one had ever mentioned the mistakes. I would not mind proofing articles, ads, webpages or formal papers. Just let me know what you want me to watch for. You can count on me to do fast, effective work!
study skills
I have always loved to learn, so it figures that I learned how to study well. I really enjoy empowering others to improve their grades and their ability to learn efficiently. Amazingly, many students with less than perfect grades acquire those scores because no one has ever taken the time to show them how to study effectively. When I worked at the Talent Development Center (a study/tutorial center) at Northwest Missouri State University, I sometimes went into classes to address how to effectively study for that subject. Regardless of the class, every student needs to learn what works best for them. Maybe you need help reading more efficienly or you need help with note-taking or test-taking. Whatever concern you have, I will come up with a strategy for you. If you have desire and are willing to put in some effort, I can definately help you!
theatre
I participated in Thespians in high school and lettered in Drama. I have experience in a number of productions. While attending graduate school, many of my friends were Theatre majors and I helped them work up monologues and rehearse for URTA. In addition, I have competed in Readers Theatre on the college level. I have several years of experience writing, blocking, and directing those theatre performances as well. My knowledge of literature helps me when working with students in this capacity. Finally, I have been involved with Forensics and Debate, where I earned numerous regional and national awards, both as a competitor and as a coach. One of my specializations for my master's work was Oral Interpretation of Literature, so I can help students prepare for auditions or State Championships in Forensics!
