 About Sarah:
My name is Sarah and I am a student at UNR. I am 20 years old and have been tutoring different subjects for different lengths of time. I am majoring in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English so that is my best subject. I can tutoring English for all ages and grades and have been doing so for about 5 or 6 years. I have played the clarinet and learned about music for about 9 years now so I can help with all basics and fundamentals and be extremely helpful in music prep. I have been ballroom dancing now for 2 years and am preparing to take the instructor's class to become a ballroom instructor at a local ballroom before becoming licensed! Ballroom is my passion and hopefully I can help you enjoy it as much as I do. I can teach both the latin and smooth portions.

Learn More About Sarah's Experience:
ballroom dancing
I have been ballroom dancing on a regular basis now for over two years. I can teach latin as well as smooth dances including but not limited to: cha cha, salsa, rumba, bolero, tango, east and west coast swing, and many more. I will be taking an instructor's class this Summer to become a certified ballroom instructor at the local ballroom I dance at here in Reno. I have already taught a multitude of students of different ages at least the bronze basics to all the ballroom dances and those that wished to continue I have taught more!
chess
I have been playing chess since I was in fourth grade which is about 10 years or so. I taught my little sister how to play when she was 4. I know all the ins and outs of the game as well as some really neat tricks. Moves such as the rook roll, 4 move check-mate, and castling are just a few. Chess is a great way to get yourself thinking and it can transfer over to academics just as easily.
clarinet
I have played the clarinet now for 9 years, all through middle school, high school, and part of college. I attended the most well known high school in all of Nevada for it's musical perfomances Las Vegas Academy! The clarinet is my first and foremost primary instrument and with 9 years to back me up I believe myself to not only be a competent teacher of this instrument, but one that can go above and beyond the expected teachings of this instrument.
general music
I have played clarinet for 9 years. I have also played guitar for 4 years. I have all the basic fundamentals of music memorized as was required by my high school. I majored in music throughout high school. I can help with the playing of an instrument, to theory and practices, as well as anything else that the student may need or want covered.
music theory
Along with my background of playing the clarinet for 9 years, I am also very capable of teaching a general and intermediate level music theory class. As a student of the high school that I went to it was required for me as a music major to take and advance in the theory classes. I have multiple ways of helping a student remember the order of their sharps and flats as well as remember which notes belong on which lines and spaces on a staff, as well as which music styles were popular during certain periods. I have also helped my mother pass this class in college with an A+!
phonics
Phonics is this basis for all of us to learn how to read. It is how I was taught and possibly how you were taught as well. I have seen the difference between someone who was taught to read using phonics as I was, and someone who was taught to read without phonics as my sister was. The difference is amazing! I can say with first hand experience that those taught to read, write, and spell with phonics generally become better in the reading and English subjects and tend to enjoy them better. They obtain a love for reading early on and that in itself helps students throughout the rest of their school careers.
proofreading
I am attending the University of Nevada Reno, majoring in secondary education, to become a high school English teacher! As such I believe that my level of tutoring in this ability and helping to proof read is essential and highly evolved. I am a stickler for grammar and proper spelling and correct everyone I know, even my parents, on the proper way to say or write something! They usually have me read their emails before sending them. I spare no expense for the red pen (though I don't mind green)if it will help a student to become a better writer/reader and help them learn what is to be expected of them when it is their turn to proof read others work as well.
