About
Nancy: |
|
I am certified by WyzAnt to tutor in the following areas: algebra 1, algebra 2, Bible studies, elementary (k-6th), European history, grammar, Latin, Microsoft Word, piano, prealgebra, proof reading, reading, religion, and vocabulary.
I began tutoring in 4th grade. I learned 6th grade spelling then taught spelling to my fellow 4th graders. In high school I was a student teacher of various written languages and English composition. In college I tutored in history, algebra, and ancient Greek. I worked as a graduate teaching assistant in religious studies. I attended schools that emphasized Bible studies from the 4th to the 8th grade. I worked as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide for several years, part-time, helping kindergarten through 8th grade students. One of my college algebra students was failing the class when I began to tutor him. After we worked together a while, he earned a B as his final grade in the course.
I have a B.A. in Art History, and I have done graduate work in Counseling Psychology and Religious Studies.
I studied piano for three years. I won second place in a county-wide contest.
My teaching style will depend on you. I like to tune in to each student as an individual and discover what works best for you. I believe that anyone can learn anything. Nothing is too hard for you if you make up your mind YOU CAN DO IT!
I look forward to meeting you and tutoring you! |

Bible studies
|
I attended schools that emphasized Bible study from the 4th through the 8th grade. I attended a Baptist Sunday School and Church off and on during my youth. I still study the Bible as a part of my meditation and prayer practice. I was a graduate teaching assistant in religious studies for one semester at the University of South Florida.

elementary (k-6th)
|
I worked as a substitute teacher and aide for kindergarten through 8th grade. I was a student teacher for 6th grade and up while I was in high school. I tutored my fellow students from the time I was in 4th grade.
|
grammar
|
I tutored my fellow students from 9th through 11th grades in English composition. I graded term papers for college students, and helped them write and correct their papers, while working as a graduate teaching assistant at USF. Since I have also studied the grammatical structures of French, German, Latin, ancient Greek, Italian and Spanish, I think I know a bit about grammar. I also completed an introductory Linguistics course while in college. I LOVE grammar!

piano
|
I studied piano for three years with a private teacher beginning in second grade. I played in recitals. I have written my own songs. I won second place in a county piano contest as a child. I also studied music theory. I took one music appreciation class in college, and I loved it!

proofreading
|
I was a graduate teaching assistant. As part of my job, I had to grade term papers. Sometimes my students requested I proof read their work before they turned it in.
I attended a small private school, and the principal gave me individual instruction in writing and proof reading. He was so demanding that he would take three points off if I failed to put a comma where it needed to be! I learned to be very detail-oriented. Any Friday I made an A in composition, I got to go outside for the afternoon. I was motivated to learn well.

religion
|
I attended schools that emphasized Bible study from 4th to 8th grade. I was a graduate teaching assistant in the department of religious studies at USF. I earned 9 hours of graduate credit in religious studies courses. I have studied New Testament Greek, and I have read selected passages of the Bible in Latin. I subscribe to Biblical Archaeology Review.
