 About Rhona:
Hello, my name is Rhona, and I originally started K-12 tutoring as a wonderful part-time vocation back in 2002 when I first got in California my lifetime CBEST Certification as a K-12 Substitute Teacher. Prior to that I was a Grades 1-3 Sunday School teacher for the children of the multi-cultural congregation of Union Church of Manila (Philippines), and I also spent a semester as an Experiment in International Living cultural exchange program high school teacher in Asian Studies in Cork and Dublin at the Republic of Ireland in 1999. My undergraduate degree from one of Asia's leading Jesuit institutions (Ateneo de Manila University, akin to Georgetown, Loyola Marymount, Fordham, Marquette, etc.) is in Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies, a Sociology and Economics hybrid that trains professionals for the non-profit sector. I also earned my Mental Health Paraprofessional Certification (for those volunteering in social work and case management for those coping with mental illness and chronic disability) from Pasadena City College and Pacific Clinics (one of California's leading behavioral health providers), and I also sat in as a guest student in an summer-long Asian American Studies Seminar at UCLA. After earning my CBEST Certification, I trained and worked directly with K-12 multi-subject teaching professionals (alumni of noteworthy colleges and universities such as Azusa Pacific University and California State University of Northridge) in their respective private tutoring services in Covina and North Hollywood. I have also worked as a trained & certified volunteer Adult Literacy Tutor for the Pasadena Public Library system, and on occasion have assisted in English as Second Language/ESL, Financial Literacy, and other adult transition & life skill programs for various non-profits serving immigrant heads of household. Aside from being an on-call tutor, my primary vocation is in the world of Marketing and Media Management, steadily working as a TV & Webcast Producer for programs seen in a diverse range of educational and entertaining networks such as PBS, Ion Media Networks (formerly PaxTV), and the like. I view Tutoring not just as a paying job, but also as a highly interactive way for both the Tutor and the Student to learn from each other and more about themselves. I know that there are generally three/3 ways students of any age learn: By Sight (ex. Reading), By Sound (ex. Listening), and by Act (ex. demonstration). Even in the world of Business and Media, I have always patiently customized the way I teach and communicate with how my clients and students can best absorb and process information. Now that I have decided to make Nevada my home, I look forward to continuing my tutoring here with a wide range of potential clients.

Learn More About Rhona's Experience:
elementary (k-6th)
Hello prospective K-6 students! My name is Rhona, and I first started teaching & tutoring children in the Grades 1-4 level in core subjects like Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and more in an international school setting in Manila, the Philippines, almost 15 years ago. Many of my first students there had parents who were world-class diplomats, missionaries, business professionals, and more. Thus, these children too also wanted to stay as sharp or better than their folks, so even in Sunday School I worked with very engaging multi-media activities & content to keep their minds growing. Now many of my former students from the Philippines are already attending top-notch US & European colleges & universities by now, learning some life-long study & work habits under me. Here in the USA, I became a California Basic Educator Skills Test/CBEST-Certified Lifetime K-12 Substitute Teacher in 2002, which qualifies me not only to teach in California public schools but also to take on intensive After-School K-12 Head Tutoring jobs. I first started tutoring Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and more at Pacific Coast Learning Center in Covina, CA (2002-2003) working with & formally training under a sweet married couple of certified K-12 teachers holding their own Master's Degrees in Elementary & Secondary Education from Azusa Pacific University. Many of my students there were in Grades 2-6 from different countries of origin just needing some extra help with their Reading, Math, Science, etc. not just to then pass their mandatory testing, but also to learn to have fun with these Subjects ;) When I moved to North Hollywood years later I again became a Head K-12 Tutor and Assistant Tutorial Center Manager with a community-based non-profit run by a PhD in Education who also taught college-level class at California State University-Northridge. Many of my students here had parents working in the TV & Film industry, and some were also in pretty demanding Magnet schools and private schools, so I kept lots of Grades 1-6 subjects interesting by showing how Math, English, Science, etc. were used everyday even in Special Effects, Sales, Sports, and more. When I moved here to Las Vegas, I realized that this area has so many growing families from all over the world, with parents also working in many exciting industries, so I again look forward to taking on Grades 1-6 students who are looking to not be bored or frustrated at all with subjects like Math, English, Science, Social Studies, etc. Remember, these are all Subjects and Skills anyone will use throughout one's lives, so I'm here to effectively tutor not just to help you pass a test or get a grade, but more importantly to have fun w/ living & learning! :-)
