About
Eugene: |
Dear Sir or Ma'am, I will be more than happy to teach you or your children the piano. I have a holistic approach that includes the best elements of classical technique, jazz theory, reading, playing by ear, improvisation, and composition. I follow the school of thought that trains the performer for today's workforce. There are plenty of opportunities to be a full time professional pianist, if the musician is well-rounded.
From the concert hall, to the jazz club; from the rock arena, to the music-theater orchestra pit... pianists are working, they are producing, they are accompanists, they are vocal-coaches, they are film composers... they are successful!
Personally, I started classical at age 5. I was performing recitals by age 8, and winning competitions by age 10. After becoming a finalist in the Syracuse Symphony Youth Concerto Competition, I turned my attention to popular styles of music, exploring rock, reggae and fusion. I attended Berklee College of Music and Syracuse University Music Dept, after which I enlisted in the U.S. Army as an MOS Keyboardist, and attended the Armed Forces School of Music. I am a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and served 8 years in the army band, where I performed in ALL STYLES, including Classical, Popular, Marching, Jazz, Swing, Blues, Funk, Reggae, Rock, Latin, Dixie... and even some Middle Eastern styles. While in the Service, I was also a regular church pianist and taught private lessons.
From the teaching side of the house, I prefer to concentrate on the direction the student herself chooses, while providing the classical and theoretical foundation for a future in music, and a true understanding of the art form.
I currently reside in Fairfax with my wife and child, where I perform every Saturday at Vespucci Restaurant (website below).
I do hope you decide to choose me as your piano instructor.
Sincerely, Eugene |

A pianist of twenty-seven years experience, I was trained to compete classically but went on to expand my horizons into the styles of rock, jazz, Latin, and blues. Embracing a creative approach both in performance and education, I believe in finding, and bringing out, the true voice of the instrument, the piece, the style, and the student.
