I will be graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in May 2008. I will be receiving a degree in Spanish and Global Studies with a concentration in Cross Cultural Diversity and Transnational Movements.
Academically and socially I am well-suited to be a tutor. I have mentored high school age students previously as part of a program called NK Success. I have tutored elementary aged students at Poulsbo Elementary, and developed my own Spanish lesson plans. I have tutored kids from Somalia in a volunteer program numerous times throughout my college career. Also, I have led multiple softball clinics throughout my 4 years at PLU, including overnight summer camps in which I have acted as a camp counselor as well as a coach. Young people seem to feel very comfortable and inspired around me, and this is generally a reflection of how I feel around them.
In regards to athletic achievements, I have played soccer for years growing up since a very young age, including two seasons playing two years up on my older brother's team and multiple summers on select teams. I was voted Most Inspirational Player three times in high school and was also a captain in my final season. I made the PLU Varsity Soccer team this past fall after not playing competitively for over 3 years. I earned a starting position throughout the season, and started 8 games. I was awarded the 'Fighting Lute Award' which is given to an athlete that exemplifies a fighting spirit at all times and that is respected by all of her teammates.
Not only do I thrive on teaching, but also on learning. I love spending time with young children and youth. Any opportunity to influence someone else's life is a blessing in my book.

I have played softball since I was 10 years old. I played first in North Kitsap Little League, and then continued to play at Kingston Junior High and North Kitsap High School. I was regularly asked to play on competitive summer ball teams, but was working throughout the summers so could not join permanently. I did, however, play as a 'pick-up' player on occasion, and thus have tournament experience.
I was recruited to play at Pacific Lutheran University and have been a part of the program for four years. In this time I have been trained in multiple positions. I was recruited as a catcher, and have also seen time in both left and right field. I have been taught the details of 3rd and 2nd base, and this year, for the first time in my life, have been starting games at first base. My knowledge of the game is vast; I have been fortunate to see the game through many different lenses.
In addition to my personal experience, I also lead clinics through PLU. We offer day and multiple days camps in which girls ages 8-18 spend hours with us learning the fundamentals of the game--hitting, fielding, base running--anything and everything it takes to become a great softball player. We also host an two overnight camps in the summer. I have also worked at pitching schools, where young pitchers come and work with our team of pitchers and catchers.
I also volunteered as a coach at Cascade Christian High School in Puyallup. A teammate and myself drove out there on our days off and led the team's practices those days.
