About

My name is Rachel and I am a recent graduate from Champlain College with a bachelor’s degree in professional writing. A professional writing degree is similar to a creative writing degree but with added emphasis on business writing and communication. I especially enjoy writing fiction, creative nonfiction, and screenplays.
In the winter of 2005 I won a campus-wide creative writing contest with a story about the competitive world of precision line drawing (not an actual sport, as far as I know). I have had my work published in two literary journals: Willard and Maple, the literary magazine of Champlain College and The Armchair Aesthete.
I love to do research, either in the library or online. For my internship, I worked at Vermont Public Television as a production intern. My job was to research upcoming guests for the interview-style show Profile. Champlain College hosts the annual Young Vermont Writers’ Conference and I have been a peer mentor at the conference twice.
In addition to my coursework at Champlain College, I have attended undergraduate classes at Harvard Extension School, which is an open-admission school that allows non-traditional students to take courses from Harvard professors (some of the courses were regular Harvard University classes; others were designed specifically for the extension school). I have taken several online courses from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in psychology, journalism, and interviewing skills. In the summer of 2002 I attended a six week, 190 hour certification course in teaching English as a second language at Saint Michael’s College.
