About Katherine:

My name is Katherine. In May I graduate with a Corporate Communications Major and a Business Minor from Framingham State College and soon will be pursuing a Master's Degree. I received credit to teacher assist in a kindergarten class. I coached POP Warner cheerleading for 4 years. I am very comfortable with kids of all ages. One of my biggest passion my whole life has been to read. I think it is such a shame that reading has taken a backseat to television and the internet. A a major reason kids say that they "hate reading" is because they haven't been exposed to the right books. I have decided to develop a reading program that involves reading and discussion challenging your child's imagination and raising their reading level. Your child and I will go to libraries and book stores to pick out books to read. With parents' approval poetry to history and everything in between will be fair game. As we read we will discuss the characters and the story. Your child will keep a journal answering specific questions, defining new words, and writing how the story is making them feel. At the end they'll write a book report leaving them with a portfolio of writings. My hope is that I can get numerous kids involved in the program at once. We will meet as a group and the children can discuss with each other with me moderating. Then I will meet with them individually to assign readings, writings, and answer any questions. I will also go over their journals to help them improve their writing skills. Hopefully your child will love to read as much as I do and will be bursting to go get a new book!
