music history I began my study of music history the day I began piano lessons at age 7. Twenty years later, it's become a true passion for me. Learning the history behind the instruments & melodies of different cultures and time periods makes any music come alive. With each piece I've learned throughout my life, I've studied the composer's life and the environment of that particular time period. As a member of MTA and certified through the California Certificate of Merit program, I've had to take tests each year for 10 years on music history. At the university level, I I took 4 courses on music history. These courses included ancient world music, medieval music (500AD-1400AD), music in the renaissance (1500 AD - 1800 AD) and contemporary music history (1900's - present). I continue to study as I maintain my music studio and teach this material to my students. piano I began piano lessons at age 7. I believe in the principle of progress, and so 13 years later I continue to take piano lessons today! I plan on taking lessons for the rest of my life, as there is always room for improvement! I play at the advanced level in the California Certificate of Merit program. I received a bachelor's degree in Music Education at Brigham Young University with a GPA of 3.6. I began teaching as a senior in high school. I currently have a private studio from which I teach both private and group lessons. I am a licensed teacher of the "Simply Music" program. I also use the "Lets Play Music" program to teach young children, ages 3 to 8, piano preparation. We have a lot of fun! I love being able to integrate two of my favorite things: teaching & music!
