My Life Experience: Respect Your Elders
I have many experiences that have changed my life but this one helped me to change for the better and it also hurt me. This experience was about my talking back to my mother.
The first time I talked back, she didn’t really respond with as much anger like this time. She was telling me to do something, and I was telling her that it wasn’t my day to do the chores. She got angry and started to give me a lecture. She told me how it didn't have to be my day to do the chores and I said, “Whatever.” It caused a big argument but we were over it by the end of the night.
It was different this time. She had talked to me about it before, but I didn't listen. I think I had the mentality of always having the last word. She was calling my phone numeral of times but I didn’t hear the ring, she got mad and worried.
By the time I came home, it was like world war three. But it wasn’t because I came home late; it was my mouth. As I walked in she asked me where I was and started giving me a lecture about how I need to check in with her and not to keep her worried. As she was talking, I kept saying words under my breath and she kicked me out of the house. It was only 15 minutes on my own I felt like I couldn’t live. Eventually, she took me back in but had me under a strict punishment for two weeks.
I haven’t talked back to my mother or another adult since. And this same experience opened my eyes to how many things my mother does for me and I respect her.
